Cricket update and dates for your diaries

Despite the wet weather, senior cricket has managed to get to week 3 of the league season with only one cancellation (and that was not a home match). It’s been a tough start for most of the senior teams but we’re looking forward to a full programme at the weekend and are delighted to welcome back Ed Hales and Josh Arnold to the first team on Saturday. Junior cricket has also had its fair share of weather-related cancellations - let's hope the sun comes out after this half term week.

Thriller on the Common
Last Thursday evening saw the U13 boys’ team progress to the semi-final of the Herts section of the U13s National Cup Tournament. Batting first, Broxbourne were all out for 63, with Ellis taking five wickets for 12 runs. In reply Redbourn faced some excellent bowling and were reduced to 57/9 with one over to go. But Jack held his nerve and scored the 7 runs required to see his team over the line. Well done to the team and good luck in the semi-final.

Four in a Roe
Our first Sunday game of the season, against the Roving Reporters, got underway after incredibly hard work from our groundsman to get the wicket dry enough for play to take place. In a probable first for the Club, we had four players from one family in the team – well done the Roes! In a rain affected chase, Roving Reporters fell 8 runs short of the revised target.

Women’s Softball Cricket
On Sunday 18th May, the women’s section hosted a very successful softball cricket tournament with over 60 women and girls playing on the Common. The weather played ball and a marvellous afternoon of sport and fun was enjoyed by everyone. Many thanks to Joanna and her team for organising the day. We are running free women’s social softball sessions on Wednesday evenings at the Club from 6.30-8.00pm – do come down and have a go.

Cricket Net Refurbishment
Our cricket nets and batting cage have been refurbished with new netting and have been stabilised to prevent bending in the wind.

Electronic Scoreboard
The new electronic scoreboard is up and running and proving popular with senior and junior teams, who can now score on Play-Cricket while automatically updating the scoreboard.

Social Events
Family Friday nights are going very well and it’s lovely seeing so many Club members enjoying watching their children training or just coming along to enjoy the ambience (and occasionally the weather!). The Ruff Wood Pizza van will be back on 7th and 14th June and we will be dragging the barbecue out on other Fridays so please do come along – all welcome.
Please put two dates in your diaries: Saturday 15th June sees the inaugural RCC Cornhole competition and on Saturday 29th we will be hosting a mid-summer cocktail party.
We will be showing all the Euro 2024 matches on the big screen in the Clubhouse – come along and support your favourite team.

Dinner Dance
Our annual club dinner dance will be held on the Common on Saturday 21st September - tickets will be going on sale from 10th June. We are looking forward to an entertaining evening and hope that as many of you as possible can attend. Further details to follow.
