In February we announced the passing of longstanding club member Harry Hobbs aged 92. To our surprise and absolute delight, we've been contacted by the executors of Harry's estate and told that he has left £11,500 to the cricket club! It will go into our 'trust' account and will be used on a suitable capital project. Thank you Harry for thinking about the club and for everything you did for RCC.
Harry first joined the club as a youngster in WW2 and continued to play for nearly 40 years, he was club captain for eight years in the 1950’s. Harry was Chairman when the club built a new pavilion on the current site in 1968 and founded the 100 Club as part of the fundraising for that project, which is still a major source of income for the club over 50 years later.
He was Chairman for 10 years and also served as Secretary, Treasurer and President which makes him unique as the only member to have held all major offices of the club.
Harry was a true club man and was awarded an honorary life membership in recognition of his services to the club. He continued to show his support to the end visiting most Saturdays during the season for a pint and to watch the cricket on the common. He will be sorely missed.
