Redbourn Cricket Club celebrates its Bicentennial Year

Redbourn Cricket Club celebrates its Bicentennial Year

With a fantastic weekend of events

This weekend just passed, RCC celebrated its 200th birthday with a series of events. On Friday, the Club was honoured to host an historic match against the MCC on what can only be described as a belter of a summer’s day. Whilst RCC were runners up in the game, the day was a huge success with one of the largest crowds ever seen on the Common for a cricket match. During the afternoon, spectators enjoyed a spectacular afternoon tea and after the match there were fun and games for the junior members, a barbecue plus musical entertainment from our own Chris Godfrey. Alastair Miller took a commemorative photo of all those who attended and copies will be available from the Club if anyone would like one.

Saturday saw RCC play 4 league matches with 2 wins and a first for RCC, with Olivia Bartlett becoming the first girl who has come up through RCC’s junior ranks to play in a Saracens Herts League match - taking two wickets! Congratulations Olivia. In the evening the Club hosted its Big Birthday Bash attended by another large crowd with a delicious dinner and music until late. Unsurprisingly, this was a slightly more raucous affair than the MCC day, no doubt with a few sore heads in the morning. And on Sunday, the women’s team capped off a fantastic weekend with a match on the Common against St Margaretsbury.

Saturday night also saw the draw for the Grand Raffle with the top prizes being tickets to the Oval for the 5th Test and a 2-hour slot in a A320 flight simulator. Proceeds from the raffle plus the Afternoon Tea/BBQ on Friday raised a total of £2,500 towards junior equipment and an Electronic Scoreboard at our second ground

Thanks to everyone who attended and participated.
