First game of the season away at Chorleywood. Temperature cold. Lovely new clubhouse delayed the start due to the fire alarm going off. They batted first because they only had 7 players at the time and we bowled really well. This is an U14 league with a full size ball and full size pitch and as such we found our line and lengths a little hard to control at times but overall really good. Our ground fielding was good and some of our catching was outstanding - Fraser 2 great catches, James, Bertie and Tom AD - but at 70-6 we thought we were through them but their number 9 scored a good 18 and they got to 111. Josh pick of the bowlers 3-11 but everyone did well - did I tell you it was cold. Being critical we missed 4 run outs as we didn't get over the stumps or our throws weren't appropriate in the situation - but I am being harsh. Well done to captain Matthew who continues to improve his keeping, he set good fields, changed his bowlers well and identified spin was hard on the wicket bowling his two spinners for 3 overs each.
On to the batting. After the early loss of Jack to a run out Matthew and Fraser steadied the ship. We did find it hard to score though - bigger ball, slow wicket and trying to play too many shots off the back foot rather than hitting through the line - but they did bowl really well. Tom F 21 and Bertie 16 no. the pick of our batters. We ended on 100.
Special mention to Will B - he only started playing cricket last year but you just cannot tell his bowling and general fielding, especially his backing up last night was fantastic.
Had a discussion about the merits of hot Bovril on the way home - was cold.
Thanks to Dave for scoring.
