Well beaten by a good side in West Herts last night on the common.
Will won the toss and chose to bat and they opened with spin - good spin and it was difficult. They set good fields - didn't bowl bad balls, it was a real test and after 4 overs we were 5 for 2. We lost 8 wickets to spin overall - remember the sessions we did in the winter about field manipulation - using the sweep and not letting the spinners settle - but there spinners bowled really well.
Will and Henry came together and put on a good partnership to get us going - and then Henry was out - well done for being so honest Henners I wouldn't have given you out - debutant Louie played a gem of an innings to get us up to 91 - well done proper cricket shots.
91 was never enough but we did lack energy in the field - well bowled Ellis some good pace and Eddie who beat the bat regularly but we didn't have enough balls hitting the stumps and our usually reliable spinners had an off day (but make sure you have your fielders in the right positions take ownership of this).
I thought they really showed us how to run between the wickets - clear calling - running with intent - putting fielders under pressure - we probably left 10 runs out there with our running.
Our only wicket came from a run out direct hit from Bertie - well done - Fraser also gave it his all in the field attacking the ball and showing some energy.
Anyway first game - lots to work on - it will get better - and thanks to Ellis and Callan for filling in.
